Bio:

As the ophthalmic pathologist at UI Health, I provide high-quality diagnostic and consultative services to patients and physicians in Illinois and the surrounding communities. My clinical practice is dedicated to the pathological analysis of tissues from the eye and ocular adnexa (i.e., conjunctiva, eyelid, lacrimal system, and orbit).

As a medical educator, I am primarily involved in medical student education, serving as the course director for the M2 Pathology Course and M4 Laboratory Medicine Course, and Specialty Advisor for students interested in Pathology as a career. I am interested in curriculum development, use of technology for education, integration of basic sciences and clinical medicine throughout the medical school curriculum, and active learning methodologies, particularly team-based learning. Thus, I am fully involved with the curriculum transformation efforts in the College of Medicine.

At the graduate medical education level, I teach eye pathology to ophthalmology residents at UIC and other institutions, via distance learning, to help them better understand the pathologic basis of ophthalmic disease and therefore become better ophthalmologists. For our pathology residents, I teach them about eye pathology and how to become more effective teachers. In addition, I provide faculty development, particularly on large group teaching, active learning, and team-based learning, for Pathology faculty through our monthly Best Practices in Pathology Education Faculty Development series, and for College of Medicine Faculty through the Scholars for Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellowship, and College of Medicine Faculty Development series.
