Cytogenetics

The UIC Cytogenetics Laboratory is a full service facility that offers state-of-the-art services providing chromosome analysis for prenatal genetic, postnatal genetic, reproductive failure, and hematologic cancer diagnosis. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis is also offered for these purposes. Examples of typical abnormal results are shown in the photographs on this page. The laboratory will begin offering FISH testing for bladder and breast cancer later this year. The Cytogenetics Laboratory services the University of Illinois Medical Center and the University of Illinois Reference Laboratory.
